NMBThe National Mediation Board (NMB) exercised its authority to call a short notice meeting between the leadership of the IAM and US Airways at the NMB offices in Washington, DC on December 17, 2013 to discuss the status of ongoing negotiations. The meeting was not for the purpose of negotiations that would otherwise occur at the bargaining table, but rather for the purpose of the Board to discuss directly with the parties the current status of negotiations.

We were advised by the Board of a change in mediators assigned to the US Airways cases from two mediators to one for all mediated negotiations. Mediator Walter Darr, who was assigned to the mechanic & related negotiations, will now be assigned to all IAM-US Airways negotiations. We were also advised that the Board intends to schedule future negotiations after the New Year holiday with specific dates yet to be determined.

There is no change in any bargaining position as a result of this meeting; however, it is possible that having the ability to express our issues in the controlled environment of the NMB offices may lead to productive talks when we meet for our next bargaining sessions. We shall see.

All of the IAM wishes to thank the US Airways members for your continued support and solidarity. By sticking together, we will achieve a much deserved contract and we will be well positioned for the challenges that lie ahead.
